
1st Harbour Village Beach Club Single Championships 2009
For the first time the players of Bonaire had a chance to play in a Singles Championship, sponsored by the Harbour Village Beach Club. In four
categories and over a two week period the players all played in a round robin format 2,3 sometimes 4 matches. By the end of last week the Semi
finals took places and on Friday December 4th all players gathered to either play Finals or watch and cheer for their friends. Lots of good matches
and very nice ambiance made this Championship a success. Winners for 2009 are;
Men B Paco Veeris winning by default, runnner up Daniel Carillo.
Men C Leonard Coffie who beat his brother Cassius Coffie giving him again only 5 games.
Men 50+ Carlos van Wilgen playing Francis da Costa Gomez in an entertaining 2 setter.
Ladies C Annemieke Stolk in a repeat from the MCB 2009 beating Kalli de Meyer in 2 sets.
All winners received a trophy and a gift certificate for a dinner for 2 at la Balandra, the oceanfront restaurant at Harbour Village Beach Club.
All runners up received a medal and a Christmas gift.
As New comer of the year was choosen Brenda Weernink, who started playing tennis in September and has signed up to gain tournament
experience. She did very well and deserved this nomination!

The Masters were played in 3 days, were the kids played 1 match a day in a round robin format, the winner being the one with the best
scores. Several very close matches were played, lots of tie-breaks and 3rd set tie-breaks had to decide match winners. The Masters of
2009 are; Rulenca Coffie, Lars van Bekkum, Adriaan Arends, Consuela van Grinsven, Kaile Finies, Jevon May and Denzel elHage.
They each received a trophy and a Digicel gift certificate. 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners received medals and a small additional prize.
It was a great year for youth tennis, all kids improved big time and we can't wait for 2010 with new teams and new tournaments!!!!!!!
